Arlington was first settled in the 1830s, incorporated as Haysville in 1878, renamed Arlington in 1883, and re-incorporated on December 19, 1900, when the population was just over 600. It grew from 2,569 people in 2000 to 11,517 in 2010 and 14,549 in the 2020 Census, and it is one of seven municipalities in Shelby County.
